Project FINALIST, new successes

The Silesian University of Technology and its Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering are active participants in the CEEPUS program, taking part in several projects over the years, which are implemented within the framework of this program. This activity was described earlier in several news items on this WEB page. One of the most successful projects is the FINALIST project, which is essentially a network of faculties and departments representing 27 universities from 10 Central European countries. The English title of this project, which served as its abbreviation, is "Fostering sustainable partnership between academia and industry in improving the applicability of logistics thinking". The success of this project lies in the fact that within the framework of the project, long-term and short-term mobility of students, doctoral students, and teachers at these universities is regularly carried out. In addition to very useful internships and exchange of experience, project participants have the opportunity to get acquainted with the science, education, history, and culture of neighboring countries, which allows for expanding international cooperation between universities. Further, this leads to an increase in the number of joint publications, inventions, scientific projects, and other activities in the field of education and science. In recent days, a very important event has taken place for the participants in this project. The Joint Committee of Ministers in charge of the CEEPUS program awarded the award to the FINALIST project, thus marking its successful operation among the large number of other projects carried out under the CEEPUS program.

Within the framework of this project, a visit was made to the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering by prof. Marian Mocan, dean of the Faculty of Management in Production and Transportation of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara. This city is the third most populated city in Romania, a very important industrial center, especially regarding the production of parts and components for transport equipment. So, it is not surprising that fruitful international cooperation has been established between our universities, our teachers regularly attend various conferences, participate in internships, etc. In addition to classes with students and doctoral students, prof. M. Mocan visited the Center for Intelligent Traffic Management and Control System in Tychy (ITS Tychy). This visit was organized jointly with representatives of the Center by the staff of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology prof. Aleksander Sładkowski and dr. habil., assoc. prof. Grzegorz Wojnar. This visit was also attended by Madiyar Sultanbek, a doctoral student and trainee from the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi (Almaty).

It should be emphasized that the technical solutions proposed at the Center for Intelligent Traffic Management and Control System are innovative proposals. They are already successfully used, and a significant effect of their application is the reduction of harmful emissions into the environment, the improvement of road safety, better informing passengers, and drivers about the situation on the roads and the load on public transport, as well as many other useful aspects. During the discussion of further prospects, it was noted that it is very important to inform the scientific community about the achievements of specialists from Tychy, for which prof. A. Sładkowski proposed to report the results of the implementation of innovative developments at the plenary session of the XV International Scientific Conference "Transport Problems", which will be held on June 21-23 at the Silesian University of Technology.

During his visit to Poland prof. M. Mocan had the opportunity to visit a number of places of interest related to the culture and history of our country.
