Cooperation with Kutaisi State University is developing
Kutaisi State University named after. Akaki Tsereteli (ATSU) has a fairly long history of cooperation with the Silesian University of Technology (SUT). Repeatedly, employees of this university participated in scientific conferences and symposiums in Poland, they published their articles in scientific journals published at our university. There were also joint publications. A similar situation was associated with the participation of Polish researchers and teachers in various events that were held in Georgia. In 2014, the first scientific and technical conference “Transport Bridge Europe-Asia” was organized. It was successfully held in Tbilisi. Two partner universities ATSU and SUT were co-organizers of this conference. Since then, this conference has become cyclical and in September 2023 was held for the seventh time, and for the third time the conference participants were hosted by hospitable Kutaisi. This conference was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the creation of ATSU.
The conference was attended by scientists from Georgia, Poland, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Lithuania and Hungary. The Polish delegation included representatives from the universities of Szczecin, Lublin, Koszalin, and Poznan. The largest foreign delegation was scientists from SUT (Katowice). Professors A. Sładkowski, E. Margielewicz, D. Gąska, T. Haniszewski, and doctoral student S. Bucki presented reports at the conference on various scientific problems of the transport industry. In addition to fruitful discussions with colleagues and discussions of plans for further cooperation, conference participants could also get acquainted with the rich history and culture of Georgia. They visited the ancient Gelati monastery, manganese mines in Chiatura, the resort in Tskhaltubo, the port city of Poti, mountainous Svaneti, the unique Katskhi pillar and other attractions of Western Georgia.

Participation in the conference was an important part of the SUT delegation’s visit, but not the only one. It is planned that in the near future, ATSU students will be able to receive, in addition to their university diploma, also a SUT diploma. This will be facilitated by the double degree program, the agreement on which was signed by SUT vice-rector prof. M. Pawełczyk and ATSU rector prof. Sh. Kirtadze. Prof. A. Sładkowski participated in the signing of this important document and was able to explain its importance to ATSU students when speaking at the inauguration of the academic year on September 18, 2023.

ATSU University has the Maritime Transport Faculty in Poti, where there are a number of specialties close to those taught at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of SUT. Foreign participants of the conference were warmly welcomed by the dean of the Maritime Transport Faculty, dr. Lali Kharbedia, and leading teachers of the faculty. Prof. A. Sładkowski introduced the faculty students to the opportunities provided by the double degree program, as well as the history and present-day of SUT during his lecture.
