Visit to Vilnius as part of the Erasmus+ program
In mid-November, a visit took place by Prof. Aleksander Sładkowski to Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU). The formal reason for this was participation in the Erasmus+ program and, accordingly, lectures were held for students and doctoral students at this university at the Faculty of Transport Engineering. In addition, discussions took place with the leadership of the faculty and Lithuanian colleagues regarding the prospects for developing cooperation in the field of science and education in our faculties. Prof. A. Sładkowski had the opportunity to get acquainted with the new building of the Faculty of Transport Engineering of VGTU, which was recently opened on the university campus.

The Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology also has long-standing contacts with colleagues from the Lithuanian Railways (LTG). Lithuanian colleagues have repeatedly participated in conferences held in Poland, and there have been joint monographs and employee internships. During this trip, prof. A. Sładkowski had the opportunity to get acquainted with the LTG Traffic Control Center.

In their free time, colleagues suggested visiting the city of Trakai as an excursion, which was founded in the 13th century and was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The main attraction of this place is the castle, which is called Trakai or Island Castle. This castle was the residence of Vytautas and subsequent Lithuanian princes and is located on an island in Lake Galvė.
