Participation in the Erasmus program and conference in Sofia
On September 15-21, 2024, prof. Aleksander Sładkowski visited Bulgaria. This regular visit was connected with two main events. One of these events was conducting classes with students and PhD students of the UACEG (University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy) within the Erasmus program. The Silesian University of Technology and the UACEG have long-standing scientific and pedagogical contacts. University staff participate in conferences and seminars held by these universities, publish their research materials in the university publications of the partners. Obviously, during such mobilities, areas of further cooperation are discussed. This visit of Prof. A. Sładkowski was no exception. Particularly noteworthy are the fruitful discussions with the head of the Department of Railway Construction prof. Stoyo Todorov, as well as with the head of the Center for International Relations and Mobility assoc. prof. Tsvetelina Ivanova.

At the specified time, the 14th European scientific practical conference on innovation in strategical planning, civil engineering, architecture, industrial cooperation, EU funds and intelligent European cities and business development – EU 2030 was held in Sofia. The Silesian University of Technology was an official partner of this conference, and its rectors, professors Arkadiusz Mężyk (previous) and Marek Pawełczyk (current) were members of the Honorary Committee of the conference. The patrons of the conference were four diplomatic missions in Bulgaria, represented by the Ambassadors of Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Czech Republic. The Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering, dr. habil. Grzegorz Sierpiński and prof. Aleksander Sładkowski were members of the Scientific Committee of the conference.
The said conference was held on the premises of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Sofia. At the beginning of the session, Daniel Ország, Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission, addressed the conference participants with a welcoming speech. Then, representatives of all embassies – patrons of the conference also welcomed its participants.

The news announced by the conference organizer, professor of several European universities and President of the European Academy of Architecture (EAA) Zdravko Rusev came as a surprise, according to which the EAA awarded the honorary title of visiting professor to Aleksander Sładkowski. The corresponding diploma was presented to prof. A. Sładkowski by First Advisor, Deputy Head of the Polish Diplomatic Mission in Sofia Anna Janiszewska-Frączek.

During the plenary session, prof. A. Sładkowski presented a report on "Development of infrastructure on global transport corridors East - West". This presentation aroused considerable interest among colleagues, as well as discussion of topical issues that were raised in the report. The next day, Komil Turaev presented a report prepared jointly with his scientific supervisor prof. Aleksander Sładkowski on "Analyzing socio-economic factors impacts on rail passenger volume in Tashkent". This presentation was also met with great interest by the participants.
