The title of Doctor Honoris Causa was conferred for prof. Aleksander Sładkowski
On 10 of July, 2018, the General Assembly of the University of Ruse named after Angel Kanchev (Bulgaria) has decided to grant the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Professor Aleksander Sładkowski - Head of the Department of Logistics and Transport Technologies at the Faculty of Transport of the Silesian University of Technology. The title of Doctor Honoris Causa was awarded in recognition of the contribution to the international development of science regarding transport and logistics and support for the internationalization of education and support of research and educational activities of students, PhD students and young scientists from the University of Ruse.
The award ceremony took place on 2 of August this year. Apart from Aleksander Sładkowski participated in it: representatives of the Rector's Authorities of the University of Ruse, members of the Scientific Council, First Secretary of the Polish Embassy in Bulgaria Mr. Jakub Flasiński, Vice-Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Bogusław Łazarz and invited guests.

The ceremony began with the traditional Gaudeamus Igitur, during which the participants of the ceremony in traditional gowns moved from the Rectorate to the Conference Center "Kanev Center" of the University of Ruse. Then the national anthems of Bulgaria and Poland resounded, and after the opening of the meeting of the Scientific Council of the University of Ruse by the Rector, Prof. Hristo Beloev, the laudation was delivered by Prof. Juliana Popova - Vice-Rector for Policy of Internationalization and Communication. Then Prof. Velizara Pencheva, Chairwoman of the General Assembly, brought closer the biography of Prof. Sładkowski emphasizing the merits in the development of international relations between Poland and Bulgaria, and in particular between our universities.
Then Rector, Prof. Hristo Beloev awarded Prof. Aleksander Sładkowski, a diploma, a statuette with the name of the new Doctor Honoris Causa and a medal of the University of Ruse. The whole ceremony took place with the sound of the traditional Orthodox song Mnohaya leta.

The next speaker was Prof. Aleksander Sładkowski, dr.h.c. mult., who spoke in four languages: Polish, Bulgarian, English and Russian. The ceremony guests and Aleksander Sładkowski colleagues, with whom he has many years of cooperation, also had own speeches.

Professor Aleksander Sładkowski thanked the management and colleagues from the University of Ruse for the high distinction, and from his part handed three monographs for the library, which was published under his editor in the Springer Editorial House for the last years and at the end made an entry in the Honor book of the University of Ruse.
