"Transport Problems 2021" connects researchers from the transport industry
On June 28-30, 2021, the 13th International Scientific Conference Transport Problems 2021 and the 10th Jubilee Symposium for Young Researchers were held at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology (SUT). This year, the two events were linked due to the pandemic situation. As every year, the conference is a platform for the exchange of knowledge of scientists carrying out research related to the broadly understood scientific discipline of Civil Engineering and Transport. During the above-mentioned events, the reports perfectly fit in the priority areas of research: Smart Cities, Mobility of the Future, was presented with success. The conference and symposium were held online and were divided into 9 sessions that allowed for an interactive exchange of views via the Zoom communicator and were simultaneously broadcast via YouTube. Ultimately, the conference was a success, and its measurable effect is, among others. scientific publication with over a thousand pages. Moreover, the conference brought together participants from 21 countries and three continents. This allows us to conclude that this conference is still one of the main platforms of intercontinental exchange and scientific discussion related to the field of transport, which is so important for the economy.
The plenary session of the conference took place at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering and was opened by the Conference Coordinator and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee, prof. Aleksander Sładkowski. Then the welcome speech to the conference participants was delivered by the Mayor of Katowice, dr. Marcin Krupa and the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, prof. dr. habil. Arkadiusz Mężyk. Another presentation that aroused particular interest among the conference participants was delivered by the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Development, Labor and Technology, dr. habil. Robert Tomanek, prof. of the University of Economics.
This year's Conference and Symposium were under the patronage of:
the Ministry of Development, Labor and Technology,
Rector of the Silesian University of Technology,
the Mayor of the City of Katowice,
National Representation of PhD Students.
The plenary session was also attended by leading scientists from Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, and Poland, as well as representatives of the Police Road Traffic Department, the Provincial Road Transport Inspection, and the Transport Department of the Katowice City Hall. The presentations of prof. Aleksandr Rakhmangulov from the Magnitogorsk State Technical University (Russia), who is one of the outstanding scientists dealing with ecology in transport, and the scientific director of the Institute of Rail Vehicle Operation, Professor Wolfgang Rösch from Leipzig met of great interest. The conference participants also welcomed the presentation by dr. habil. Jarosław Kozuba, prof. of SUT "Selected aspects of the pilot situational awareness shaping" and the presentation by prof. Asen Asenov from the University of Ruse (Bulgaria) on the implementation of digital technologies in intermodal transport.
At the end of the plenary session, as every year, participants were invited by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, dr. habil. Grzegorz Wojnar, prof. of SUT for an excursion, which, for the reasons presented, this year took place in a virtual version and concerned the scientific activities of the Silesian University of Technology.
In the following days, 8 more sectional meetings were held, the topics of which included all types of transport, new technologies for transporting goods and passengers, aspects of transport infrastructure development, industry management, questions about shipping and logistics, and many other topics related to transport. As always, great attention was paid to the achievements of young scientists, whose papers were presented in two separate sessions.
To sum up, it can be said that the XIII International Scientific Conference and the X Jubilee Symposium of Young Researchers, held under the common name of "Transport Problems", ended with unquestionable success. The conference organizers invite all scientists and practitioners interested in exchanging experiences in this discipline next year to the new edition, which will take place in a mixed traditional-remote mode on 27.06-01.07.2022, however, hoping that we will meet directly.
