Trilateral meeting in Urumqi

On October 22-25, 2024, prof. Aleksander Sładkowski visited China. It should be noted that this was not the first visit. The Silesian University of Technology (SUT) has strong ties with the Qilu University of Technology (QUT). This university is the leading higher education institution in Shandong Province. After the local academy of sciences with its research institutes joined this university, this university also became the largest regional scientific center. The previous visit of prof. A. Sładkowski in July 2023 to the Institute of Automation of the Shandong Academy of Sciences (Jinan) marked the beginning of interaction between the Silesian University of Technology and Chinese colleagues.

The return visit of the Chinese delegation took place in December 2023. During this visit, Chinese scientists got acquainted with the achievements of various faculties of SUT, and a cooperation agreement (MoU) was signed. Over time, these formal agreements are filled with specific joint achievements. For example, in the near future, the monograph "Using Artificial Intelligence to Solve Transportation Problems" edited by A. Sładkowski is expected to be published by Springer Publishing House, in which one of the chapters is written by Chinese scientists. A joint article entitled "Dynamic event-triggered integral non-singular terminal sliding mode tracking of unmanned surface vehicle via an event-triggered extended state observe and adaptive neural network" was published in the journal Intelligence & Robotics.

During the last conference “Transport Problems”, scholars from Xinjiang University also expressed their desire to start cooperation with SUT. Colleagues from Jinan, in turn, proposed to hold a trilateral meeting in Urumqi, at the said university. Accordingly, the visit of prof. A. Sładkowski planned for October 2024 was moved from Jinan to Urumqi. Such trilateral meetings took place at the Faculty of Transportation. During these meetings, prof. A. Sładkowski and dr. Li Qian from QUT informed their local colleagues about the existing cooperation between SUT and QUT, the possibilities of expanding such cooperation and the prospects of Xinjiang University in the event of its inclusion in the existing group of universities.

Meetings with colleagues from Urumqi were very interesting. Their research directions could complement the work being carried out in Katowice and Jinan. The guests were able to see this for themselves when they visited the laboratories of the Faculty of Transport.

In addition to very substantial discussions on promising areas of cooperation, guests from Poland and Shandong Province were able to get acquainted with local history, culture and customs by visiting the Xinjiang Regional Museum (Qu Bowguan), Red Hill, Shuimogo Park and other attractions in Urumqi.
