Cooperation with Ukrainian universities
The Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology (SUT) has a rich history of cooperation with various universities in Ukraine. Such cooperation is expressed in mutual exchanges of visits for teaching staff, research staff of the universities participated in many conferences held in Ukraine and Poland, there were joint publications in scientific articles and monographs, employees of partner universities participated in joint grants, as well as in many other types of scientific and pedagogical activities.
There is currently a war going on in Ukraine. Its struggle for independence is supported by Poland, like all civilized countries. Obviously, the possibilities for staff exchange are very difficult at the moment, and yet, thanks to the grants received to support cooperation between SUT and Ukrainian universities, it was possible to carry out scientific and pedagogical internships for teachers and staff of the National Transport University (Kyiv) and Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. These grants were awarded within the framework of the European EURECA-PRO program, financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchanges (agreement no. BNI-UE-2023-1).
In particular, on December 9-13, 2024, an internship was organized at SUT for prof. Sviatoslav Kryshtopa and dr. Myroslav Panchuk from Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, as well as prof. Svitlana Sapronova and head of the Department of International Relations and Work with Foreign Students Tetiana Deyniuk from the National Transport University. Foreign guests could get acquainted with the laboratory facilities of all departments at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering. Issues of education at the faculty and the possibilities of studying Ukrainian students in Katowice were discussed. Issues of joint scientific research, participation of Ukrainian scientists in conferences at the faculty and many other aspects of interest to the Ukrainian side were also considered.

Possibilities of cooperation with Ukrainian universities were also discussed in the virtual space, for example, on December 13, prof. A. Sładkowski held a mini-conference with colleagues from the Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University using the ZOOM program. In particular, dr. Oleksandra Orda, assoc. prof. of the Department of Transport Technologies, was interested in the possibilities of participating in the Erasmus and Horizon Europe programs together with SUT. In addition to explaining such opportunities, the Ukrainian side was sent samples of agreements SUT had previously concluded with several Central Asian universities.
