Fresh wind in the sails of CEEPUS cooperation
This website has already noted several times that cooperation between several Central European universities is actively developing within the CEEPUS program, so we will not explain the importance of such cooperation further. We will only note that the Silesian University of Technology has been an active participant in the FINALIST project for many years, the coordinator of which in this program is the University of Novi Sad (Serbia). During the implementation of this project, the number of universities participating in the project has doubled, and it has now become known that in the 2025/26 academic year, 28 universities (faculties) from 10 countries will participate in the project.
Equally active participants in the project are the University of Szeged (Hungary) and the Polytechnic University of Timisoara (Romania). In both of these universities, the Silesian Technical University cooperates with faculties that educate students in the field of transport and logistics. These faculties are the Faculty of Engineering (Szeged) and the Faculty of Production Management and Transport (Timisoara). In connection with the end of the term of the management of these faculties, elections were held, and new academic staff members have now taken positions as leaders of these faculties.
In April 2025, prof. Aleksander Sładkowski visited these faculties as part of the implementation of academic mobility under the FINALIST project, in addition to mandatory classes with students, prof. A. Sładkowski met with the new management of the faculties. During fruitful discussions, issues of continuing cooperation not only within the CEEPUS program but also other aspects of international cooperation that may be useful for the interested parties were discussed. Such areas of cooperation may include participation in conferences, preparation of joint publications, participation in various grants, double diplomas for students, and many other areas of joint activities. The parties expressed their interest in continuing and expanding this cooperation.

In addition to the official events during the visit of prof. A. Sładkowski, foreign colleagues organized several visits to industrial enterprises in the region, where the guest could get acquainted with the advanced achievements in the field of production. For example, in Timisoara, there is a factory of the international corporation Litens Automotive Group. This company, which was established in Toronto (Canada) in 1979, currently has production facilities and design offices in Canada, USA, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, India, China, South Korea, Japan, Spain, Great Britain, France, Germany, and Romania. In particular, belt tensioners, tension pulleys, generator disconnectors with overrunning clutches, and some other products that are necessary for the operation of automobile engines are manufactured in Romania.

No less interesting was the visit to the brewery in Timisoara. The first brewery in Romania was founded in 1718 in the Factory District of Timisoara on the initiative of Prince Eugene of Savoy. Currently, several varieties of excellent beer are produced here. From a professional point of view, it was very interesting to get acquainted with the logistics processes at this specific production facility.
